On December 8th 2003 the
Winter Springs Commission approved the temporary PawPark on the Wincey
property next to Central Winds Park. This location will cease
operations on September 30th 2007. However, this should give Winter
Springs, Oviedo, and Seminole County ample time to identify and
construct a Permanent Facility hopefully near the Black Hammock Trail
Head.
The city wants to make it
abundantly clear that this is a TEMPORARY site only. Please view the
Letter from the City Manager and the Memorandum of Understanding for
more detail.
This is a major victory for
dog owners in the Winter Springs/Oviedo area! Thanks to the forward
thinking of the Winter Springs Commission, we have a reason to "flip
for joy". We will continue to work with the City to make the temporary
facility both safe and popular while increasing support for a more
permanent park in the future.
Plans have already begun on
development of a Grand Opening Day Celebration and other
fun/fundraising activities to help support the facility. If you would
like to be part of this or any other events please contact us.
Special Thanks to all the
citizens who have supported getting the park to this point and to the
City of Winter Springs Commissioners for recognizing this opportunity
and acting on it in so favorable a manner.
Non-Profit (501c3) Status
We are close to obtaining
our official status as a not-for-profit corporation. The core team is
working on membership applications, fees, and will announce the voting
options for paying members of FLOP. We estimate the approval of our
501c(3) status sometime in February. Once we have official corporation
status we will be able to start promoting and offering incentives to
potentional members and announce elections for the officers of the
corporation. Thanks to Greg and Bob for all their hard work on this.
